Shirley Vern Bennett Friday, August 28, 1936 - Wednesday, July 12, 2017

       Shirley Vern Bennett age 80 of Fredericktown, Missouri passed away on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 at the Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. She was born on August 28, 1936 in Fredericktown, a daughter of Frank Elake and Verna Maude (Miller) Cureton.  On July 16, 1960 in Fredericktown, she was united in marriage to Gale Lee "Steve" Wilson who preceded her in death on August 19, 1985. On February 22, 2000 in Jefferson City she married Gerald "Jerry" Bennett who survives in Fredericktown. Other survivors include: one daughter - Lisa (Wilson) Matthews and husband Johnny of Fredericktown; one stepson - Dane Bennett of House Springs, Missouri; stepdaughter – Jerilee McNern and husband Mike of Colorado Springs, Colorado; four brothers - Troy (Irene) Cureton, Paul (Nancy) Cureton, Carl (Joyce) Cureton and Donnie Cureton all of Fredericktown; three sisters – Brenda (Donnie) Pogue of Fredericktown; Linda (Wayne) Beaty of Barnhart and Carol (Terry) Vance of Burlington, Iowa and two sisters-in-law - Pat Cureton of Fredericktown and Joyce Cureton of Bowling Green, Kentucky; grandchildren – Jonathan Matthews (Samantha Lockwood), Tara (Dustin) Richardson, Kaylee (Tim) Leonard and Brittany (Josh) Stegall; one step-grandson - Ronan McNern and seven great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, first husband, Steve, brothers – Jack and Delmar and sisters – Olga Jean Yount, Charlotte Cureton and Betty James.

     Shirley was a Fredericktown High School graduate, she had worked at Black River Electric in Fredericktown for 25 years, she later moved to Jefferson City and went to work for the Department of Revenue for 15 years; after her marriage to Jerry Bennett they returned to Fredericktown and she has been working partime at Wilson Funeral Home for the last fourteen years. She was a very giving person, she loved visiting with people, especially the sick; she had delivered meals on wheels and also volunteered with Missouri Division of Aging of Cape Girardeau with the EVE program also as an Ombudsman for a Residential Care Physicality. She loved the Lord, she loved going to church where she was a member at Grace Church of the Heartland and the fellowship she had with her church family; she loved cooking and baking and having family and friends over for meals; her favorite past time was shopping and going to yard sales with her sister Linda and friends, Robbie and Wanda, but her greatest joy was the love she had for her family.

     Visitation will be from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m., on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at Grace Church of the Heartland in Fredericktown and on Sunday, July 16, 2017 from 12:00 - 2:00 also at the church. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at Grace Church with Bro. Carl Cureton and Pastor Ray Reese officiating. Internment will be in the Walker Memorial Cemetery in Fredericktown.  In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Grace Church of the Heartland, Fredericktown.
